SkyCare Repatriation (part of BM Ambulance Group) delivers specialist medical repatriation and private ambulance services across the UK and internationally. Operating state-of-the-art Pilatus PC-12 NGX aircraft and a CQC-registered road fleet, our teams provide safe, patient-centred transport and emergency care.

We are seeking an experienced and safety-focused Blue Light Driver to join our ground-based medical team. The ideal candidate will hold a Category C driving licence (for vehicles > 3.5 tonnes), have a exemplary driving record, and possess a current BLS or ILS qualification.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

Operational Duties

  • Safely operate CQC-registered ambulances under emergency and non-emergency conditions in the UK.

  • Transport patients, relatives, and clinical teams between hospitals, airports, and repatriation handover points.

  • Drive to the highest professional standard, following Highway Code, Blue Light regulations, and company policies.

  • Conduct daily vehicle inspections, report defects, and maintain cleanliness and readiness of the fleet.

  • Assist with patient loading/unloading, stretcher handling, and basic manual handling procedures.

  • Support clinical staff with oxygen management, medical kit transfer, and aircraft loading where required.

Clinical Support Duties

  • Provide Basic Life Support (BLS) or Immediate Life Support (ILS) within the scope of training to assist medical team.

  • Reassure and communicate clearly with patients and relatives during journeys.

  • Maintain accurate journey and incident documentation in accordance with governance processes.

Professional Responsibilities

  • Work collaboratively with paramedics, nurses, and operations coordinators.

  • Adhere to CQC, EURAMI, and company quality standards.

  • Participate in training, governance, and debrief sessions.

  • Uphold data protection, confidentiality, and professional conduct at all times.

Essential Criteria

  • Category C manual driving licence (permitting > 3.5 t vehicles).

  • BLS or ILS qualification.

  • Maximum 3 penalty points on driving licence.

  • Minimum 2 years’ experience driving emergency vehicles.

  • Excellent knowledge of UK roads, navigation systems, and emergency driving regulations.

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.

  • Physically fit and capable of patient handling and loading tasks.

Desirable Criteria

  • FREC 3 or equivalent pre-hospital qualification.

  • Blue Light emergency driving certification (IHCD D1/D2 or equivalent).

  • Previous experience in patient transport, ambulance, or repatriation settings.

  • Experience operating abroad or working with international partners.
