Optional support for verified climate projects alongside international medical repatriation
Air ambulance and international medical repatriation can be essential when a patient needs urgent or specialist transport, but aviation also creates greenhouse-gas emissions. SkyCare gives clients the option to support climate action alongside eligible medical flights by contributing towards projects intended to deliver measurable environmental and community benefits.
Our current focus includes safe-water initiatives in Cambodia, where improved access to drinking water can reduce reliance on boiling unsafe water with firewood or other fuels. We present this as an optional contribution to climate action — not as a claim that a medical flight becomes emission-free.
Why Climate Action Matters in Medical Aviation
Air ambulance missions can be essential for patients who need urgent, intensive-care or specialist international transport. Aviation, however, is energy intensive and produces greenhouse-gas emissions.
SkyCare therefore gives clients the option to support climate action alongside eligible missions. Where a contribution is made, it is directed towards recognised climate projects rather than presented as a claim that the flight itself has no environmental impact.
Projects such as safe-water programmes can have both climate and community benefits by reducing the need to boil unsafe water using non-renewable biomass or fossil fuels, while improving access to safer drinking water.
Where Your Contribution Goes
SkyCare supports climate action through South Pole, an international climate-project developer and adviser. Our current page highlights its Access to Clean Water for Better Health work in Cambodia.
Safe-water projects can reduce emissions where households would otherwise boil unsafe water using firewood or other fuels. They can also provide wider health and community benefits by improving access to treated drinking water.
We link directly to the project and relevant standards information so clients can review the underlying climate-action programme for themselves.
How Optional Climate Funding Works
- Mission planning: we first plan the medical transport around the patient’s clinical and operational needs.
- Emissions estimate: where appropriate, the flight-related emissions can be estimated for the mission.
- Optional contribution: clients can choose whether they wish to make an additional contribution towards climate action.
- Project support: the contribution is directed towards the selected climate-action programme.
Completely optional
Medical suitability, safety and speed of repatriation always come first. Climate funding is an additional choice and never affects the medical care or transport plan offered to the patient.
Safe Water for Better Health in Cambodia
In parts of rural Cambodia, access to microbiologically safe drinking water remains a challenge. Safe-water programmes provide decentralised treatment solutions that can improve access to drinking water while reducing the need for households to boil untreated water using wood or other fuels.
This type of project links climate action with practical public-health and community benefits, which is why it is a natural fit for SkyCare’s wider responsibility programme.

Our first responsibility is always to move patients safely and appropriately. Alongside that clinical duty, we believe it is reasonable to be transparent about the environmental impact of medical aviation and to give clients a practical way to support credible climate action if they wish.
